Congrats on the invite. That's one heck of a friend you have there.

I'm heading out there in a couple of weeks and will be staying at Hideaway for a few nights. We might dive with them, but are definitely planning at least one day in Beqa Lagoon. I believe it's less than an hours drive to Pacific Harbour where a couple of dive shops operate from. I'll try to post an update when we return.

Aquatrek operate from their riverside jetty, and do trips out to Beqa Lagoon. You can't miss the CENTRA, it's the first Resort on the right as you cross the Pacific Harbour Bridge. They have a nice swimming pool there too, near the Jetty and within a holla of the bar:D.

Don't dive with Hideaway, they'll be taking you to the same place, either use a hire car(Use Khan's Rental Cars, they're the cheapest in Fiji) or get a cab. Another alternative is the 'Bus'. But you have to be very patient, they run on 'Fiji Time' and stop every 2 minutes to pick up or drop off villagers.

CONGRATS on your free trip, would you believe I just won one too from Underwater Sports and www.spislandtravel.com. wow wow, you have to love their divers fair and wining the grand prize!

I've dove from Hideaway before, and wasn't really that impressed. MUCH MUCH better diving in Beqa lagoon, but it IS at least 45 minutes to an hour one way. The shark dive with Aqua Trek is a must do, as well as rafting the upper navua river gorge.

I was glad we only stayed 3 nights at the Hideaway, too many loud kids and party people in the bar playing silly games at night. We've also stayed at the Naviti but they don't have a dive shop, and it too was a more a family place with on-site stores and shopping.

MUCH better to stay out on Beqa Island, and we loved Kulu Bay resort there, verses the Beqa lagoon resort you hear more of (it seemed dirty and run down in June of 2005).

So on our free trip, we'll be up on Taveuni, and staying at the Maravu resort, sounds real nice from the websites and reviews.

You just GOTTA love free trips, especially ones to fiji.

BULA!
