A bunch of the 85 price increase is probably due to shipping cost. They come ocean from Faber in Italy. Only source for new US DOT approved steels.
 
$1100 makes me feel pretty damn good about the 2 sets of used LP85 doubles I picked up 6 months ago for $150 / set.

To the other point about sidemounting hp100s vs lp85s, I normally sidemount my 3500 PST HP100s, today was the first time I tried LP85s. If you need the weight and your okay with your cylinders being part of your ballast, HP100s are great. That said, I was pretty damn happy with the 85s other than having to add lead
 
Got my new tanks yesterday. The shop I got them from told me the new dealer cost is their old retail cost.
 
Was on DGX today getting some stuff and looked at tank prices. A new HP100 with basic valve is $419. 85s and 50s are still out of stock.
