Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Faber (or whomever they are now) tanks (currently what you "can" get) are very different form Wothington/XS Scuba (no longer manufactured), the latter being much heavier...

The Worthington/XS Scuba LP 85 are anchors. I love them for back mount doubles in a dry suit.... I've been told they are highly undesirable in SM...

YMMV
Mine are the older Worthingtons, I guess they're pretty comparable to the PST's. The should be, they're identical except the 85's are just a hair longer.
Two tanks for $1,100?????? :fear:

I'm so glad I'm done buying tanks....
$1100, get used to it, this is only the beginning.
So very scary. I'm so tired of this crap. Grateful I bought used tanks when I did.

I think I paid $800ish for a pair last spring from DGX without shipping.

Are you at all opposed to buying used? Or are they just not out that way? I just couldn't imagine those prices... very scary.

I have a spreadsheet that gives me a rundown on my tanks. So far for 10 steel tanks over the last 3 years (2 120's, 6 100's, and 2 85's) I've spent $1325. Add hydro @ $180 for the ones that needed it and it's $1505.00 total. 2 of those sets were doubles, so bands and manifolds included.

I don't want this to come off as bragging (I'm really not), I'm just saying a lot of money can be saved if your comfortable with a little leg work and patience. There's also a good chance that there's a much larger scuba community in the Chicago area and all that used stuff is gobbled up right away.

I’ve not seen used 85s in the Midwest for a long time.

You also have four kids and a wife. I probably have more disposable income than you do.

I would put money on it.... if I had any:confused:....:rofl3:

Slightly off topic... for a european... what would these be in eurolingo?

I belive the best translation "across the pond" is LP85 = D12 232 Bars, you get them used in (mangfold and valves included) Norway for around 400€.

New with manifold and valves, 900€.
Rest of Europe would typically be cheaper

Ah... Yeah, they're nice. Prefer the convex over the concave ones my self. And they sidemount really nice too.

Think I paid around €500 for my last pair of 12L doubles, and they had just been serviced and tested as well.

Can pick up a brand new 12L 232b for around €300 here.

Very affordable tanks and oh so sweet to dive with.

NOTHING diving is affordable in Norway. Current price "on offer" for these are about 1100 USD.
