Well, It's official, I just got back from my first dive after my certification. I went down to Pompano Beach for 2 days. I had a conference in Ft. Lauderdale and ended up diving 2 dives thrusday afternoon, and 2 dives this morning. IT WAS GREAT!! I saw 2 nurse sharks on my first dive, and on my last dive I saw a spotted eel. It was really cool. Plus a lot of other fish. I was amazed. One thing I noticed is I threw up on 3 out of the 4 dives. I was fine on the boat, but when I got in the water I threw up. It was increadably gross. Is this normal? After I got sick I was fine the rest of the dive. Anyway, I am not one to let a little sickness stand in the way of my diving. I loved every second of it.

Congratulations! You are now officially infected with the scuba diving bug! (as are we all)

My first dive after certification was a memorable one, too. :) I saw a harbor seal, several octopus (octopi  ), different nudibranches, an eel, and 3 horn sharks!

As for thowing up after a dive, that's never happened to me, and people who know me know me as prone to motion sickness. Just take your appropriate medications before diving. Maybe DocViking can help with this? :)

Before the first dive I took dramimean (sp?). It didn't do any good. And it doesn't happen at the end. It happens underwater. I was kinda wondering if it could be an effect of the air. But really don't know. Today I didn't take anything but it was the same as yesterday when I did take some medication for motion sickness.

As for your first dive(s)...congrats, and may you have many more dives to come.
As for the getting sick part....Ive seen many divers get motion sickness from diving, they limit the food they eat before diving, take the ascension/descension slow, and take a motion sickness medicine and they are fine. However, in your case, im not so sure it is motin sickness, due to the fact that you should have felt sick on the boat, from the waves/movement/etc if you are prone to motion sickness. Try shore diving, see if you get sick. If you dont then i have no idea what to tell you , except contact DAN, and see what they have to say.

Congratulations.

If our divers are going to take Dramamine, we recommend that they take (1) one dose before bedtime; (2) one dose in the morning; and (3) if they are not getting on the boat until later, one dose before getting on the boat.

The meds need time to get in your system. Moreover, they won't work if the seasickness has already presented.

Good Luck

Congrats on your dives.

I was wondering, did you remove your reg to barf or did you just let if fly through the reg?

I remember that my first post-cert dives had me knee deep in muck placing pier supports in for our sailing club. Sounds like yours were much nicer.

I have seen people get seasick in all conditions from dead calm to heavily rolling seas. Chumming :puke: for fish sometimes happens underwater.

Are you getting sick after ascending, or immediately upon hitting the water? It is possible that you are swallowing a bit of air at depth, and that air is expanding upon ascent. That could make you sick.

To answer all the questions... I was told to barf in my reg but think that's really disgusting.. so I just make a point not to breath in after barfing. The first time I felt sick around 1500 psi left.. or about 20 min into the dive... I threw up about 5 min later. the second time I felt sick around 10 min into the dive and didn't throw up until I was back on the surface waiting for the boat to pick me up. The last time I felt sick about 15 min into the dive and threw up right away cause I knew from experience as soon as I did I would feel better, and the rest of the dive would be fine.

I agree with SS1diver02. It doesn't sound like sea sickness or you would have experienced it on board. Then usually there is relief when you enter the water.
My brother-in-law used to vomit after diving too.
Try the shore dive and see how you feel.
Anyway I hope it passes and you enjoy diving vomit-free.
