Wow, what a coincidence on subject, response, class and school. In my entrepreneurship class at USC, many years ago, my project was to open a dive shop in our city. Unfortunately, my conclusion was that a shop would not make it here financially. I caught a little flac from other students because mine was the only project that was not a "go", and because all the rest of the projects were going to be very profitable in a short time. I think they also thought it was a cool idea. Anyway, it was a grad school class that had a mix of students. Some had real world experience, like me, but the majority had progressed straight from undergrad. The most vocal were the ones straight from undergrad as I recall. I got a good grade in the class, so I quickly forgot about the other students.

Don't worry about the other students, just worry about showing the professor you really did the work. He will see the original quality of the work and the passion you put in to it. Yours is a very realistic project, not pie in the sky. You will get a good grade.

Thanks BintheW.

Reading your response brings a smile to my face. Yesterday I was frustrated and my head hurt from the whole ordeal.

I was really concerned about the perception from the Professor. But, yesterday he urged me to go into the double master's program in January. He felt that I would do well and he gave me the names of the program contacts in order to get started right away. To me, that is somewhat of an honor that he believed in me enough to urge me on.

I graduate tonight and I can't tell you how hard I have worked to get here. My ex has often made fun of me getting my degrees and what I have learned along the way. I can tell you this, not only have I learned valuable information from the contents presented in classes, but I have gained valuable information and education from the mere experience as well.

.....and he wonders why he's called an ex.;)

I experienced something similar years ago in a business class dealing with technology. I was down played because I only focused on local business and small offices and not corporate america. The difference was I tried it and it really wasn't marketable in this area as it was far beyond cost effective to make it feasable for SoHo. Now however, I've revamped things for local and its going great gang busters. In 4 weeks I've practically given my stagnant career a jump start! :)

Congrats Raven!

Raven, I have a similar story. When I was in nursing school I had a very difficult time with my instructors. I was a little too opinionated, a little too political, wore my uniform and scrubs a little too short, wore my hair a little too blond and a little too long, and I asked way to many questions. I wasn’t obnoxious, aggressive or offensive, I was just different and because I was different many of the instructors were threatened. (I know this, because after I graduated I went back to visit and that is what they told me) No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t get the marks or praise that others in my class got. I’d go home every Friday night crying and swearing I wasn’t going back to school, only to have my Dad repack my bags every Sunday night and push me out the door. Each time he put me in my little Rambler American, he said “Mare, you have a fire in your belly, don’t let anyone put it out because when it’s all said and done, it’s the passion from within you that will bring success.” The other students weren’t smarter than me, they were just a little more mature and a lot more adapt at playing the game. Well, my father’s words got me through nursing school, helped me to get the highest scores of my class on the R.N. licensing exam, and landed me a job in the intensive care unit as a graduate nurse (something that had never happened before). Interestingly, the two top students didn’t even pass their exam the first two times they took it.

So Raven, I learned early on in life that you have to draw strength, passion and conviction from your spirit, not from the words of others. That doesn’t mean you don’t listen to feedback, it just means you keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. From the explanation of your plan and your presentation it sounds like you did an outstanding job on your assignment, but you know that don’t you…

Congratulations on your graduation and I wish you much success with your masters program!

You've shown them all up & they don't like it, so let's blame the smart kid for all her hard work, no, better, let's accuse her of plagerism of the first degree!

I can relate - I was first accused in 3rd grade, what can I say, I'm an over-achiever. The teacher didn't believe my report on the oceans, complete with official Latin names, could be written by a mere child. I remeber her making me read my report, so she could see if I could pronounce the Latin. I remember crying as I walked home. I remember the phone call to my parents that night & the ensuing parent-teacher-student conference whereby my teacher was convinced that I had indeed written the report. (My father explained he had me reading Greek mythology at the age of 4.)

In the business world you'll be accused of (unseemly acts) with the boss to get ahead. Never mind the degrees, the appropriate business attire, the long hours, hard work - if you succeed, you must be doing things after hours.

I've found living well to be life's best revenge. I know I don't have to cheat on papers, or other things. I have my integrity. All the nasty stuff just makes me work harder & achieve more. If for nothing else to continue to p*ss off & show up the naysayers, ex's-, and the rest!

And a big Congratulations on your graduation.
