I really like the information I am seeing on the new Olympus 1010. 10 megapixels and a 7x zoom and pocketable, be still my heart. So has anyone tried one (or previous versions)? Advantages/disadvantages? As a very long time Sony user what can I expect from the transition (no I am not drinking the kool aid)? I also will be using the internal flash any issues with that (other then the normal)? I will get the Olympus UW housing.

Thanks.

The dark side is an SLR.:D It looks like a nice camera. Did you read any customer reviews?

Well, the really, really dark side is IMAX.:rofl3:

Oh sure wander around all over the place and you want me to convert.:D

I did find a few reviews by topside photographers. They seemed to be pretty impressed and like the anti-shake system while zoomed out. You know that little feature might be pretty handy underwater, there's no saying how many pictures are lost due to camera motion that we think were a missed focus.

I just recently bought one and have used it topside.Pics look good topside. Just got the housing, strobe and arm. I am using them this weekend. Will repost with the results.

I just bought the Stylus 1010 for my wife because she wanted a small camera to keep in her purse. We both dive and have been looking for a good beginner dive camera. I had been considering the SeaLife Reefmaster Mini w/ external strobe, but for the same price I could get the housing, external flash, and arm for the Stylus. We've had quite a few cameras over the last few years (Sony, Canon), and I was very impressed with the Olympus - just seems a very well made quality camera. I've not used the Olympus much, but my wife loves it! I've been looking everywhere to find reviews on using it with the underwater housing, but can't find anything. I'm very interested to hear what others have experienced with it before I buy the housing, strobe, etc.

It should do as an uw camera but it is lacking in several major features I feel are necessary in an UW camera if you intend to get anything more than "OK" photos. It has no manual mode, no control of the flash and no histogram display. For basic photos with the camera as is it may be OK but if you intend to add a strobe and possibly lenses you may want to consider a different camera. This one and others with similar features are going to limit you pretty quickly.
