I heard it described as a tax on the stupid. I know the chances of winning are astronomical but its kind of fun to drop 5 bucks and wait for the lottery drawing. I do it a couple times a month.
They're putting in slot machines a couple blocks from where I live, I used to love the old ones. Putting quarters in. listening to them clunk and clank. Now its a little card, you're winnings are on and off the cards magnetic strip. Each card and each machine are networked and monitored. Its great for the data watchers that work for the casino and watch the trends. Its a bore for the players. You can't even put that last quarter in, going out the door. You need the little card that you cashed in.
