The reason gambling and lotterys amongst low socioeconomic groups is so political is that they are considered to be the least likely to have the education which inoculates individuals from the irrational and improbable expectation of "winning".
Thats why in Vegas, the dumb people are playing the slots and the smart ones are at the Blackjack table or if they are really smart, they are in the card rooms in the back.
At least, that is what I came up with. So..maybe the answer is that if you like gambling, try moving to a game where the odds are better. Unless you are dumb, like me, and then avoid it altogether, and just go with mutual funds.
