Well, I need a pair of gloves. This past weekend I was diving with a pair of Henderson Gold Core gloves and they were quite toasty indeed. On a visit to my LDS yesterday, I noticed that Henderson has the Hyperstretch available for gloves as well. I really like the idea of no zippers and no velcro on the Hyperstretch since I'll be tucking them into a new semi-dry suit and they'll be much less bulky but I don't know how the warmth factor will compare to the Gold Core.

So my question is: does anyone have experience with both the Hyperstretch and the Gold Core in the same weight (gloves are both 5mm) and is either one significantly warmer or colder?

Thanks in advance!

Rachel

I can't really answer your question but I can tell you that if you tuck your gloves in the sleeves of a semi-dry its likely to be far more towards semi than dry :) I would leave the gloves on the outside of the sleeve.

Hyperstretch has spandex in it and somewhat less neoprene so it can stretch in all directions, so no zippers, etc. ,while Gold core is all neoprene. I asked Henderson when I got my 5mm jumpsuit and they said Gold core would provide slightly less compression at depth compared to Hyperstretch and maybe a littler warmer.

Hyperstretch is great for good wetsuit fitting - like gaining and losing weight like I seem to do all the time.

I have a hyperstretch wetsuit that I absolutely adore, I'm not built like the models they use for less flexible wetsuits.

The semi-dry has 2 wrist cuffs, one that has the seal and a zippered cuff over top of it, the gloves will fit nicely between the 2. That's why I like the lack of bulk on the hyperstretch gloves. I'm just worried that if it's cold enough to wear the semi-dry, if I sacrifice the warmth for streamlining, I won't be happy.

I got a hyperstrech about 3 months ago and have 3 trips (9 dives) on it so far. Dove in Nov, March, April at Catalina, water temps between 60-55. I feel slightly cooler than my old 5mm titanium (or at least it feels that way), however it is more like diving a 3mm in terms of comfort and flexibility. Diving locally is less of a hassle, than before. I'm usually one of the first suited up and over the side while others are struggling to get on their suits.

On the recommndation of my LDS I elected to go with the 7mm torso and 5mm limbs (great choice). I also recommend their hoods.

If its really cold I sometimes will wear a polypro diveskin under the wetsuit (seems to make a hell of a difference) and no need to add extra weight.

Although I have never used one many friends swear by a hooded vest under their suit. With the strechy suit it should be easier to switch back and forth.
