Anyone have any experiences with HOT for speeding post surgery recovery? I had hernia surgery five weeks ago and I am healing, slowly. Was wondering if HOT would speed up the healing process? Thanks.

Hyperbaric O2 therapy is used for for wound therapy, and it will speed up the process. You need to speak with your physician to find out if you meet the criteria.

How are you feeling Marshal?

Randy,

Healing, but this five weeks has been the longest five weeks of my life. Not sure how much further I have to go, but I am getting better. Still not on top of it, though. But, God has been so good and blessed me during this, so enough about my aches and pains.

Sporket,

What do you know about HOT?

Not too much, sorry to say. I hear it's good for infections and wounds that aren't healing properly.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is primarily used for the treatment of hypoxic, open wounds. In practice, these are primarily ulcers on the feet or legs, a lot of them in diabetic patients or people with vascular disease.

My guess would be that when you say you are having "problems healing", what you're referring to is having persistent postoperative pain. This is unlikely to be due to hypoxic conditions in the groin or abdominal muscles, so I don't think it would be likely to improve with hyperbaric treatment. However, if you are having severe or burning pain, especially around the public bone or down the inner thigh, there may have been some nerve-related complications to the surgery, and you should revisit your surgeon and talk to him about it.

Thank you for the info. I have more like persistent postoperative discomfort, moved through pain the last few weeks. Again, I am healing, I am just trying to take some responsibility for my own wellness and do whatever I can to speed up a slow slow healing process. At least, it seems like a long slow process to me.

well Marshall, I hate to break this to you. You ain't no spring chicken anymore! It's going to take a while!! :D

Lots of love man, you know I'm teasing.

Good nutrition and a light but consistent program of exercise (eg. walking) would probably do the most to speed the healing. Some types of hernia repair put some stress on the surrounding tissues, and take a while to feel normal.

My next door neighbor swears by hyberbaric chambers, he has one in the apt, a couple at his home on the west coast of florida. He has claims of amazing results on everything from stroke victims to neurolical diseases. He's not a charlatan or hoo doo quack selling anything, he probably has $100 k in chambers and uses them to help people. He's a successful businessman who uses his own money. He's raising funds to set up a clinic in Tampa. It helped his grandson with (I think cerebral palsy) and he swears by it and wants to provide it free to anyone who needs it. He usually traps me when I'm working on my boat and buried in the bilge to tell me the wonders of hyperbaric medicine. I was a chamber operator 30 years ago and remain pretty sceptical, he on the other hand has seen the recoveries.

This is kind of where he is coming from
