:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue: Look around our various forums - everything from New-To-Scuba to Instructors-Only to Dive Medicine.

Which fire, where? You might better ask for that help on that location forum.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

If you fill out your profile, we'll at least know where you are. Of course, I understand that may still not be where the fire was.

Give us a bit more to go on.

Welcome to the board. Please be sure to post your findings on fires in hyperbaric chambers. I have a reasonable amount of experience with HBO chambers, both as a diver and in emergency medicine, and I'm not familiar with any significant risk of fire associated with chamber use.

I'll be looking forward to reading your findings,
Grier

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

P.S. - If you have not already done so, please fill out your profile.

Go and ask NASA - one of their chambers burned up a bunch of astronaughts one day. The Tom Wolff book The Right Stuff has a rather graphic description. There was also an hour show on PBS that had some 'nice' photos. 100% O2 and 2 other key ingredients make a nasty trio

A Chamber Fire can result from two things in my experience.

1. if the air in the chamber is heavily oxygenated and the diver is covered with grease... Boom!

2. If a spark gets intothe O2 exhaust vent for the masks. No as spectacular, but you've still got a crispy body to deal with.

Though I have not actually seen either of these happen, I have no doubt that either would be suficienct to cause a chamber fire.
