I'm not sure if I got a good deal or a bad deal. I can get two al80's ?(1995)for $76 total. But then have to pay $95 or more for shipping or drive to Valparaiso In.. Then pay $43 to get them Hydro tested. First is $43 the going rate? 2nd is this a good deal ? I'll just thank you now for any and all input!

Take them directly to a hydro facility and it will cost you (for the hydro) anywhere from $15-25.

There's a place in Cincinnati that does it.... www.sparklingcarbonic.com

Although I haven't used them yet, I did a VIP for a guy that had them done there recently.

Agreed. I dropped mine off at an LDS, and they took them to the hydro facility, and with their charge, it was a total of about 40 each. No shipping. So, going direct to the hydro facility will shave that 40 down a bit. I just don't know where it is!

I'd rather pay the few bucks extra and not drive to cincy. But 90 for shipping? Ridiculous.

I'm not sure if Crouch fire supply is still in Dayton but they used to do mine (don't remember how much). You could always call SODA and ask where they take tanks for hydro then take them yourself :D

Look in your local yellow pages for fire extinguisher dealers or fire service safety companies. Call them and ask if they do the hydro, the cost and turn around time. I found two in my area that are able to do the test and they charge about $15 per tank. Several of the companies I called didn’t do the test and gave me the name of places that did or were willing to send the tanks out for me. I have since learned that a couple of LDS’s in my area send their tanks to these very places.

Good Luck!

About 6 months ago, I had the good fortune of finding a source for hydros in the Louisville area. While it's a bit too far for a regular trip down there (for me), after exchanging emails online, the owner invited me down and said I could participate in the hydro process. He's a tech/cave diver, so he understood why I wanted to minimize flash rusting inside my steel cylinders. All told, we did 8 LP Steel cylinder, complete with Plus rating, in maybe two hours... No.... not your typically turn around time, but we were also chatting quite a bit too.

It was nice to go through the hydro and "plus" process. So, even though it was a 4 hour round trip, I got a nice education, and my 8 steel cylinders back in the same day.

thank you all for the feed back!!
