Competition is ALWAYS a good thing...the cream rises to the top.

We'd always like to believe the first, and are all too frequently surprised to find the second. Given the required capital investment and Merdiano's large and long established infrastructure, any new entry is going to find it tough to compete on price, and that's almost always going to be the most significant factor. The number of customers who might pay a small premium for better service (fast turnaround and always full-pressure tanks) is, I suspect, too small to be economically viable.
Absent a new technology to disrupt the market (solar power?), the only way I see a new major fill operator as viable is if Merdiano's simply doesn't have the capacity to consistently meet the (year-round) demand.
