Anyone been there recently and know of safety issues for U.S travelers?

I live in the UK but as I have a trip planned next year from Hurghada, I was just talking to a local operator there. She assured me that it was completely safe in the Egyptian part of the Red Sea, at least as it is now.

I am interested in this subject as well. I want to do a liveaboard out of Hurghada next year. My wife is worried but others tell me nothing to fear. Do westerners get negative looks and stand out like a sore thumb?

Spent 2+ weeks in Egypt last month including Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada and the Red Sea desert between Safaga and El Quseir. We did have armed security escorts and police in Cairo and Luxor (primarily as a preventative measure) but nothing along the Red Sea. Hurghada should be fine.
