Jim is correct. That is an Azure vase sponge.

Azure Vase Sponges are Callyspongia plicifera
Class: Demospongiae

It's got great exposure but if you could have shot it from the side, or at least don't so straight down, the whole picture wouldn't have looked so flat..it would have had more demension. That said, there are times when you just can't get low and shoot from the side or below.
