What type of parrot fish are those huge one's we see down there? I've never been able to get a decent pic of one of them, but I think they are orange with green heads and tails, but not sure.

Or green with orange heads. Like this?

Saw three huge ones together on Punta Tunich last week. They were darting around like bait fish.

Yep, Rainbow. Blue parrot fish can get very large, so can the Midnight parrot fish (a beautiful Navy blue).

Saw several of the big ones last trip. This was the best photo of one.

Lucky enough to do Tunich twice yesterday. Half a dozen rainbows and three midnights.
Ah.... Tunich....

They were hanging out at Tunich last month also, at least 3 or 4 of them,

I saw one huge Midnight on the trip as well, but can't remember what site it was...

...thankx for the ID guys!!!

It is amazing how large the Parrot fish get on Cozumel. After Emily and then Wilma in 2005, I noticed that the Parrot fish numbers, and many of the fish population in general, were downsized. However, from immediately after and gradually so on, I have found it amazing how the size of the fish grew back to the Giant size kind we see again today. Same thing for the Grouper. But, could the Grouper growth be due to the hold on Grouper fishing ? Or am I in left field ?? Just a thought up for discussion...

We noticed a definite change in the size and color and numbers of the Parrot fish after Wilma. There seemed to be many more larger and darker Parrot fish around, than we had been seeing in the 80s & 90s. This observation led to much conjecture amoung us long-time visitors and the DMs. Did their diets change? Were they pushed into new locations? Less concealment? Ah, the mysteries of the sea! No conclusions were arrived at as far as I know except it was time for another beverage!
