Seeing that many HP tanks are being shipped with convertable valves (seems XS does this regularly), is 3442 psi and a yoke fitting compatible?

---------- Post added April 10th, 2013 at 10:35 AM ----------

found the 2006 thread (Google, not SB's search engine). Seems it's okay if O-ring is in good shape......

question though: What constitutes a "modern" regulator???????

I have this configuration on my HP 120. In fact, I'm not even sure this valve is convertible...it is an XS series tank (I can't remember exactly...but I think Worthington XS series). So far (3 years of using this tank), it works well. At some point, I'll probably make the switch to DIN...but for the time being, it was easier to stay Yoke. I am careful about my O-Rings and inspect them every dive...and carry spares...and don't dive in overhead environments...and carry a pony on deeper dives.

Yes they are compatible. You just need to make sure you use duro 90 o- rings
I have seen people use 70 durometer and those were failing often.

I guess in this case a modern reg from a SP line would be MK15 and up (those that use bushings) I have heard MK5 o-ring wears way fast when used on HP tanks. I only use LP tanks so I cannot confirm. My MK5s work well on LPs (up to 3000)

thinking MK-10s..... ???????????????????? This is the wife's set-up. She usually dives AL63s. Just got her an HP80.... suppose I could convert her MK-10 to DIN... and have her use a DIN to Yoke for the 63s...

My gear is all DIN.

My wild uneducated guess would be that as an MK5 the 10 just has the o-ring in the body with no extra bushings Im not sure if the tolerances are higher for MK10 than MK5 if not they will not be the best.

I know the current DIN converter will not "easily" work on the MK-5 without modification, but, supposedly will work in the MK-10....

But I do not think it's going to help anyhow. The problem is not the yoke connector but the piston stem o-ring.

I have a 3442 100 cu ft tank with a convertible valve and use my MK10 with no problems. I use a duro 90 Viton o-ring for the piston stem seal-no bushing etc. The tank valve o-ring is also a duro 90.

It works just fine with about .5mm of spacer between the body and the retainer and a modified Mk20/25 saddle.

And I'm pretty sure the heavy Scubpro yoke is strengthwise unchanged mfro the Mk5 through now.

If you're asking about the MK10 and 3442 PSI tanks, not a problem. IP might be a little higher with the tank completely filled. You likely wouldn't notice any difference in breathing performance. It is true that there are no bushings on the MK10 but as long as the HP o-ring is the correct durometer (85 or 90) it works fine.

If you're asking about yoke vs DIN for 3442 PSI tanks, also not a problem with the MK10 yoke. No need to convert it to DIN.
