How's South Padre Island over Christmas break?

The wife and I are visiting my parents in Harlingen so I'm wondering if I should tote the gear or not. I'm used to diving dry in Vancouver with 2M vis in 45 degree water so if I can beat that off SPI let me know What are the conditions like at this time of year? I've heard they're highly variable, even for boat dives like to the Texas Clipper? Best dives in the area? Recommended dive ops?

I havent been there but I emailed a couple of shops and I asked about diving in early October and definatally got the feeling that they were winding down for the winter I hope you have more luck.

I suspect not very good. American Diving doesn't list anything past September.
