Howdy yall.

I was certified way back in 1985 with padi when I was a mere 15 years old, I raised the money by halling hay. My mask was a US divers wrap around and my fines were some compros..and i had a regular ole snorkel all for 90 bucks...The total bill was like 210 dollars for the corse, I even used an old horse collar BCD with a conshelf 20 regulator...well 20 years later the equipment has changed quite a bit but the love for the ocean is just the same. I havent dove recently purchaing a home and setting up salt water reef tanks kinda keeps my diving funds low.........but when I dove I always prefered salt water....I absolutly love the califorina kelp forrests.....cozumels reefs...and even the oil platforms out in the gulf of mexico....my certifications are through advanced diver with several specialities and some rescue and dive master work.......I seriously doubt Ill finish the dive master program I did not like the business aspect and dealing with the public and never had the desire to teach....lol the ocean is for me to get away for a whyle and relax........Being land locked I can only dive lakes and enjoy spearfishing living in arkansas makes it nice since we can go after game fish....but underwater photography is my favorte...I own a Sea n Sea motor marine 3 and love shooting as much film through it as possibl during a five day cozumel vacation.

As far as future goals ....well starting up a dive club as a Special intrest group of my salt water reef club to me both hobbys go hand and hand, my goals would be to bring togeter a group of people with a similar love for the aquatic enviroments in a safe diveing experience whyle suporting our local dive shops and saving some bucks in the process......down the road I would like to be ablke to book dive trips for the club as well.

Hi there and Welcome to SB.com

Earned your Cert in '85 hauling hay?! :11: Boy does that bring back memories, altho I wouldn't try Scuba in those days because of the money. Let's see, that's about when we went to round bales and hydraulic lifts, still work - but not as bad as the old rectangle bales with 2 wires - one for each hand. I guess you're too young to have handled the old bundles that we stacked in tee pee shapes. ;)

Here is a good place to start posting your Arkansas diving ideas: ScubaBoard.Com > Regional Travel & Dive Clubs> North America> United States> Deep Dixie Divers if you haven't already.

Thanks yall for the warm welcome....Dandy Don if I remember corectly they were 90 lb bails and were stacked in a tin barn durning the middle of summer.....I got paid 10 cents for every bail I picked up and then stacked.

Oh I forgot to mention that my wife is also recently certified, well she took the corse in Houston texas a few years back...for her birthday back then I bought her some scuba gear that matches mine....a sunto cobra dive computer just like the one I have and a legend sp regulator, I use a USD micra...and a backpack style BCD..a sea master i believe...cant remember what BCD she got but at the time USdivers bought out a company for there bcds it was one of those.......Sorry Im not up to date its been about three years since I was real active in the dive shop....lol I used to buy sell and trade scuba gear pretty regularly.....
