I am from Calgary and will be doing my 7th( & 8th) dive in Catalina this comming Saturday. I've already signed up for a boat dive. Should I also consider doing the park from the shore? Since I have no buddy going with me, I'll need to sign up with the dive operator(Catalina Diving Supply). The guided tour is $100. Is this worth it? or should I just do another boat dive?

It's great to have found this forum, it's good to be able to draw from such a knowledgeable group. Thanks for letting me in.

Welcome to the board!

All I have done off of Catalina were boat dives, but the park there is very popular. The extra money spent for extra help as a :newbie: would be well worth it. If you are feel confident, tho - don't be shy about buddying up with folks you meet at the park.

While there, ask around for Dr.Bill - a regular here. Say howdy for me.

And don't be shy about posting. Click Forums above, tour the long list of choices, and jump in anywhere you're qualified. PM me with any questions, and I'll try to find a pretty good answer.

Don pointed me to this thread. I will probably be boat diving over the weekend, but may make "an appearance" at the dive park... more lovely ladies there on weekends! Don't hesitate to come up and introduce yourself... I'm told I look like my avatar picture (I'm not sure whether that's good or bad).

You can occasionally pick up buddies at the point if you ask around. Because most of my dives are working dives, I rarely dive with buddies other than those familiar with my work.

Or pretty ladies...!! :D

Wow..thanks...I think I will do the guided tour with an instructor. It will be good to get some pointers from an instructor(it's always good to learn more). I'll still do the boat too! I want to get as much diving in a possible as this is my first weekend off since last New Years.

Looking foward to learning, looking, getting wet, and Saying Hi to Dr. Bill and the Lovely Ladies
