Just wanted to say hello to everybody!

I'll be going for my Open Water certification next month and am eager to meeting other scuba enthusiasts! I love to travel and currently work in the entertainment biz as a Set Decorating & Props assistant. Have been interested in underwater videography off & on for the past couple years (and now seriously considering it), and would love to hear/read about your experiences and any tips & tricks you'd have for a noob like me! lol

Looking forward to the adventure! :D

Hi. I just got back from Mexico. I did my final dives for my open water and then went straight into my advanced cert. We did a night dive. Was kind of eerie at first but there were nine of us to it went well. Did about 12 dives while we were in San Carlos. Saw so much, everything I wanted to see. Thankful I didn't see any sharks but would have loved to added a turtle to the trip. Got to play with sea lions and caught some lobster for dinner. Was a great time. Hope you enjoy your dives.

Welcome to SB.
Hey Thrax50. Have fun with your OW classes. Sounds like you will be ready for some October/November diving.:cool3:
Drop down the local Southern California forum to see what's going on.
Let us all know how you are doing with the classes.
There are some nice boats that go out and of course the express to avalon is a fun day or two.

Nice to meet you Trinka!

Oooo night dive sounds so awesome... and playing with sea lions!! I've done snorkeling with leopard sharks in La Jolla and that was pretty neat!! I love sharks so I'd totally be up for seeing them around! :)

Sounds like you had an incredible time! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you! I will definitely post updates as I go along! The classes that I'll be taking will be down in Catalina so I'm very excited to swim around the kelp forests there! Another diver was telling me how the sea lions will play hide & seek with you through the kelp :D

Welcome to our wild and wacky group.

The most important thing you can learn about underwater video is that you need LOTS of $$$. You simply MUST upgrade after every new technological improvement. I've gone from 8mm to Hi8 to digital-8 to mini DV to HDV to HD and now Jean-Michel Cousteau says I need to invest in 3-D HD (that's TWO cameras instead of one!). It's a never ending battle.

Seriously, I think you'll be amazed at how taking video can increase your fun quotient on your dives... until you actually have to edit the footage!

So I've heard!!! I figure it be a hobby first and if I love it enough, well, we'll see where that'll take me! :) I'm always up for a challenge. :cool2:
