Hi, I finished my DM training late November, and it was only recently that I'd actually mailed in my appication form. (slow season anyway) I'm talking with my instructor about going to IDC. Unfortunately, my LDS is not yet IDC capable so I will be going elsewhere for the testing.

I've been asking everyone I can.. how was your IDC experience?

I had a great time at my IDC! Of course I decided to go to Grand Cayman so there was plenty of fun to be had ;)

If you still remember all the physics and physiology from the divemaster stuff, the tests shouldn't be too hard. The toughest part about the IE for me was the brief and debriefs I had to do for the confined water and open water stuff. PADI has a very specific formula they want you to use and it's a little unnatural for me.

It was pretty intense. Lots of work and time involvement. The CD worked us into the ground. But when it was all done, the IE seemed easy when compared to the IDC.

It was a piece of cake. The IDC is designed to teach you to teach, and as a 12 year public school teacher, I had no problems...other than actually falling asleep in class one afternoon after the AM dives.
Just pay attention and do whatever the CD tells you to, and the IE will be easy.

xSandman3.. hehe, 12 years of teaching must have been a BIG plus.

I'm looking to start my IDC mid March when it gets a little warmer in Miami so, wish me luck. The weather's been non diver friendly recently.

Sandman, How many of your students would say the same? :)

Teaching isn't the difficult part. I've taught for over 10 years. The difficult part was learning the PADI way. I know, they've tested their techniques and the IDC is just another technique they use. I don't know about the IDC being a piece of cake though. The IE, after the initial stress was gone, was easy. But our CD was relentless with us. We had to give near perfect presentations. Our scores were 1-1.5 points higher in the IE than they were in the IDC. I guess it just depends on the CD and MIs.
