My reasoning for wanting to persue my PADI cert rather than my NAUI cert is because my parents have both taken the course and we have always been certified through PADI so I am already very firmilliar with their methods and such. Also, I have all of the books and course materials for the program.

Thanks Diversteve, I actually contacted Victory Sports and have found something through them.

But thanks everyone for your oh so helpful and not at all snarky comments.

But, the snarky comments DID keep it on top so other could find it and give a good answer! :)

In all seriousness though. Find an instructor that does both, and see what they charge for a card from both organizations.

To KoryBeth,

All you got to do is just ask dive center that is they have any PADI Instructor or not? that all.

You AOW certified depend on just instructor not dive shop. If he is PADI Instructor, everything will be fine, even dive shop is NAUI facility.

Just a thought: I have my OW from NAUI and took the AOWPADI course, learned a lot more than if I had just taken the PADI system orNAUI system. A lot of the PADI material I had in the AOW course I had alreadyhad in the NAU OW course. Some of thematerial that the PADI OW had I did nothave. It was very enlightening and very interesting. It also helped me understand what my dive partners havelearned from different agencies. It will open your eyes and mind to new and differentapproaches to diving. It is the instructorand not the agency, trust me I learned that after taken my AOW course. Since wehad a very large class we had 4 different instructors, each was very differentas to what was okay and what was not. Some were very lax and almost anything youdid would pass and some were hard core.
I wouldHIGHLY recommend taking a course from another agency, it is well worth your time.:)

Just ask the shop if they have an instructor on staff that is also a PADI instructor. Then ask if he can give you the PADI cert too. As long as the course covers the requirements under both agencies, he can issue both cert cards.

You are in a place with no PADI? !!! what about Starbucks? Subway?

NAUI - don't check NAUI off completely = If I remember correctly their courses have Nitrox integrated.

Like others have said - its all about the instructor.

Chances are pretty good your advanced certificate from NAUI will get a lot more respect than a PADI AOW cert card and likely the course will be better.

you could always do the course material and do your check out dives on your next vacation if you really want to do PADI, it doesn't have to be done at a local shop.

your diving ability will get you respect, not the card that you carry!!
