A lot of places forbid gloves. I'm thinking of Caymens and Honduras off the top of my head. I can totally see how it would be beneficial to wear them while going down a line, but then take them off so the scuba police don't yell at you.

I lost a brand new pair of 4th Element gloves in the water. I took them off after descending on a line and put them in my thigh pocket. The pockets have a secure velcro.

When I surfaced, my pockets were still closed but the gloves were gone. I have no idea how.

How do I secure my gloves in a pocket? I need to clip them to the bungee somehow...

Ah yes, another case of 'weird **** underwater that apparently defies the laws of the universe'!

You probably pulled them out accidentally when you took your hand out of the pocket. Sometimes I shove my hood in my pocket and that happens.

I agree with Spectrum, the gloves probably never made the pocket. I wear gloves in very cold water only, and keep them on so they can do their job. Gloves on/gloves off during a dive makes no sense to me. I can imagine gloves with a wrist strap going on a d-ring or bungee, but they ride better on my hands. By the way, depending on conditions I will wear a 3 mil or 5 mil glove. Putting them on is difficult above water, darn near impossible under water. Taking them off isn't much easier. ( I like a snug fit to preserve some dexterity) So as to gloves, leave them on or leave them on the boat (or shore).

I have seen just a couple places where divers were not supposed to have gloves but the bouy line or cable was frayed (cable) enough or had barnacles, stinging tiny critters etc. that would hurt your hand. cheap work gloves, even cotton ones, are good for this and worthless enough that losing them doesn't matter. real easy to put on as well.
