Hello,

During a dive, the Suunto EON Steel computer will calculate the average depth of a dive - from the surface, all the way to the bottom.

My question is this: once at the bottom, is there a way to reset the average depth, so it will track my average depth at the bottom or working phase of the dive?

If the computer can do that, how would I go about making this adjustment?

Thanks in advance!

Why do you want that information?

Don't know if that feature exists on that computer, but you can get it after the dive if you write down (or remember) the starting & ending averages and times. Call those T1 and T2, then:
Avg12 = (Avg2*T2 - Avg1*T1) / (T2-T1)

Another option is to import the profile into Subsurface. It can give you the avg depth over any graphically marked interval.

Probably to have his computer tell him his average bottom depth rather than to keep track of it himself.

I guess that most people who use average bottom depth for anything important are so used to keeping a rough running tally in their head that it seems like second nature but I can certainly see how the idea of having the computer do it for you might seem appealing

Yep, thank you, that is what I was doing originally, was hoping to "automate" the process.

After searching the manual, it seems that resetting the average depth is not an available feature on the EON Steel.

I read and re-read the manual a few times over and couldn't find it either. I was hoping there was a hidden feature somewhere, but no such luck.

Thank you for checking!

I have never seen that feature on any computer. I don't see why any computer maker would add that feature. Too easy to get someone who doesn't know enough about the computer to trigger it and chaos happens.

What you simply need to do is pull the profile, pick the start and ending points from that profile, and you will get your data. But this will be post processing, not during the dive.

Shearwater Teric and likely some of the other models have it. As to usefulness, it allows the average over a portion of a dive to be known during the dive or without downloading to a PC. I've used it to calculate bailout SAC on a CCR dive which was discussed around the picnic table post-dive. Just saves a bit of time is all.
