What's the best way to clean a camera lanyard? I tried washing it with water but still smells pretty musty. Wasn't sure if some highly diluted bleach would do the trick or cause damage:

Its a piece of rope, looks easy enough to make....if it doesn't smell to your liking, just replace it, and stick your hardware on the new one.

Here is a video tutorial of something a bit similar:

I have the same lanyard (OP) and I soak it with soapy water and if necessary, then use a semi-soft brush with dish soap. You can soak it in water with enzymes if that doesn't do the trick. I have good luck with mirazyme. I have also found that immediately rinsing the lanyard (and camera of course) in fresh water after a dive helps alot.

I soak it along with my wetsuit and BCD after a trip in Enzymatic Cleaner.

In the washing machine. A softener can be added to give it a good smell too. I usually wash my stinking lanyards with my colored cotton clothes every few months ... the lanyards, not the clothes.
