- Buy from our advertisers! New gear from a reputable company comes with new warranties and you are supporting those who support ScubaBoard. The money you tried to save in buying used gear may not be worth the hassle. In the same regard, be careful of those listed in our Google Ads. Most are legit, but we do not vet them and have no idea how scrupulous they are.
- Deal locally and meet in person! Follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.
- Never ever wire funds! This includes Western Union, Moneygrams, Cashier's Checks or any other wire service. Anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer. If you meet in person, use cash. If you must use the mail, use PayPal and list it as a sale or auction and not as a "gift".
- Fake cashier's checks and money orders are common so don't accept them! Banks will cash them and then hold you responsible for the funds when they are discovered weeks later.
- ScubaBoard is not involved in any transaction! We do not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification". Any suggestion otherwise is a lie.
- ScubaBoard offers this free service with absolutely no guarantees! We will not get in the middle of any transaction: it is yours and yours alone to make sure it's good for you. We assume no liability for anything posted here and using this indicates that you know and have read all of the rules of the marketplace and that you assume all risks associated with doing business with strangers.
- Never give out your financial information or passwords! This includes bank account numbers, your social security number, eBay/PayPal info or the like.
- Avoid any deals involving shipping or escrow services! Only scammers "guarantee" a transaction in this way.
- If a deal is too good to be true: it usually is. Don't get involved in anything that sounds too good or too easy. Scammers rely on your greed to make their money.
