I am discarding my bulky console in favor of a computer on my right wrist and a small SPG. (My compass will be handy in a pocket if needed.) I have acquired this SPG which does not have an attachment point in the boot. I want to hang it off a D-ring on my BC. Any ideas? No duct tape suggestions, please.:D

I simply take a zip tie and zip tie an XL snap bolt to the hose near the SPG. Never had a zip tie fail and I have a bunch in my save a dive box.

Congrats on ditching the big consul!

zip tie a clip to it on the neck of the gauge just below the head.

if it's a brass and glass spg you can pop that boot off of it, attach a boltsnap to it (photos on here somewhere to show you how to tie the knot) then run it under your left arm and snap it onto a d-ring. very streamlined.

if, however, it's plastic you really either want to leave it in the boot or otherwise avoid exposing it to the environment naked.

A lot of people use SPGs without boots or console mounts, with a reef knot using #18 or #24 nylon line to attach a bolt snap. How to Attach a Snap - Dive Gear Express

A quick question: Why the compass in a pocket? I use my compass more than just about any other instrument I carry during a dive, and can't imagine it not being instantly accessible in the limited visibility waters that we typically dive!

I would suggest there are 2 types of gear you can add bolt snaps to:
-Items that are fixed to something solid on one end (2nd stage, SPG, etc).
-Items that are loose (lights, etc)

The fixed items should be attached with some type of break away feature in case you get snagged. Even if the break away breaks, you are in no danger of losing such an item. O-Rings work great or you can buy pre-made gizmos.

The loose items work well with zip ties. The good ones are very strong.

Most (90%) of my diving is in warm water high visibility guided diving locations (i.e., going to Cozumel again in April.) When I dive California waters the compass will be on my left wrist.

Thanks, everybody. I zip tied an XL snap bolt to the hose near the SPG and it looks like it will work perfectly!

Agree with the concept. One of my first instructors showed us how to use the line and bolt snap approach for lights and stuff (I have them attached to abotu 8 different items that I can use at this point). His reasoning for using that same approach for consoles, spgs, etc (the attached items you ref'd) was that in the event of a snag, you have the option of cutting the bolt snap away by cutting the line between the item and the boltsnap. Makes sense to me and I replaced my retractor that I was using to connect my console to my BC and I am much happier.
