I just bought Zeagle ZX- Flathead VI regulator and Envoy Octo. Also I bought brass SPG from a different vendor and LP hose from my BP. Can I assemble it myself or do I need to go to LDS in my area? Do I need to use any special grease on the O-rings? Do I need special tools for that?

Thank you

Silicone works fine on the o-ring unless you are planning on using nitrox. In that case an O2 compatible lube is needed such as Christolube. In either case you need just enough to lubricate the o-ring so that it can slip into the space available between the hose and regulator to provide a good seal. In a pinch some people just use spit. It's not ideal but it is better than no lube at all as assembling it dry can damage the o-ring.

You will need an allen wrench to get the HP and LP port plugs out of the first stage. This is normally a 5/32 allen wrench, but there are a few odd plugs out there.

A regular open end or adjustable wrench works fine on most hoses. Some have very narrow hex portions on the regulator end and a thinner wrench works better.

You want to be sure that you do not overtighten the fitting. If you over tighten it you will stretch the threads on the brass hose fitting which can cause it to fail with a resulting catastrophic loss of air.

Basically, tighten it hand tight without the wrench and then tighten it just a wee bit past hand tight with the wrench (usually about 1/16th of a turn). The o-ring seals the fitting, not the tightness of the fitting so you just need it tight enough to not come undone on it's own under normal handling.

I made the assembling myself. Special tools are not needed unless you are planning to open up the 1st stage (which is not the case here). Can apply some silicone on the o-ring.
