Hello all,

A question about proper thickness of wetsuit. I plan to go to Akumal, Mexico during Christmas. How thick of wetsuit should I wear? I am sort of skinny so I get cold maybe a bit faster than others. I guess 3mm fulll wetsuit will do in my case?

Thanks for your information.

if you get chilled easily, you may want to get a 5mm. You could also look into one of the variable thickness, i.e., 5/3. These have a thickness in the torso of 5mm, then 3mm for the legs and arms.

There are some manufacturers that vary this to have 5/4/3.

It would be helpful if you could find a body of water in your area that is close to the same temperature as where you will be going, and rent a couple of suits to try out.

Remember, while a 3mm will probably be fine for the first dive of the day, if you are doing 3 dives per day or more, you would probably need more protection by the third dive.

Another option is to get a 3mm suit and a 3mm vest to add if you do need more.

Hope this helps.
