I have a carrying strap for the surface.

In the water, I always have the housing clipped to a D-ring with a twelve inch lanyard and bolt snap. My camera and housing weigh about as much as a mid-size luxury car. If I unclip the housing for any reason, I clip the bolt snap to a loop at the top of the lanyard so it doesn't drag on the reef.
