Roatan is very safe...You should try Utila; super cheap, super safe and a lot of backpackers.
You can find more info here: Scuba Diving in Honduras - Dive Roatan & Utila. Low cost Padi certification
I considered Utila, having been there last summer, but all the divemaster internships that I found there were about a month long. One of the things that I really liked about CTD is that you can make the internship as long as you want, which I felt was important especially considering I don't have hundreds of dives under my belt yet.
I don't think you could go wrong with them. It's like an extended family - even though we only dove with CTD a week it felt like it. We were included in their friday DM graduation activities w/o having to ask.
Will was also the first one to help us find a local dr. when my friend needed help. He was just leaving the shop as we were going by but arranged for a couple of cab rides for our group to AKR - the chamber is there. At that time I don't think we'd even met. And somehow the next morning Gay knew about it and followed up to be sure everything was ok - it was.
I also overheard Will teaching a class outside one day on the deck. It was very thorough yet fun.
Some SB friends went there for DM and stayed on to become instructors. They're off traveling the world somewhere or I'd put you in touch with them. They were able to rent a small apt. nearby in a safe complex reasonably - they were on a yearlong odyssey so on a pretty austere budget.
Pretty much my impression was that Gay knows everything/everyone worth knowing. She's good people.
That's very encouraging. I think I saw you posted a link for yearlong-odyssey-friends' blog in another thread, which was an interesting little perusal.
