General health and medical illness is probably a better indication whether you should dive or not. Not every 50 years old are suitable to dive and not every 70 years old are excluded from diving.

All Right!! Glad to have you joining in. 60 is a nice place to start.
Good Luck and Safe Diving,

I met a 65 year old man that dives. He said as long as you feel good you can do it

Jacques Cousteau dove into his mid-80's although he required special equipment later in life.

I've still got 30 years left at that rate.

Well, I just saw a short excerpt in Rodale's May issue reporting a study from Duke (funded by DAN). Basically it said that age alone should not be a problem, assuming that there is no other health issue. When older participants were compared to younger group, there was a reduction in lung function to a certain extent but not significant enough to stop scuba diving.
They did not say how old, just said beyond middle age! Also the test was done under simulated environment. So I guess for now, if you are healthy and have no other medical problems, it should be ok, just be sure to check with your doctors that there is nothing else going on, health wise.
