For all fossil wannabees.:D take a look at this.
A woman of enormous energy and determination, she took up underwater photography at the age of 71, published two books of underwater pictures, and was still diving at 98.
from this site Leni Riefenstahl

If your not within 10 years of this, your NOT to old.:D
My oldest students sofar where 79 and 83.

You make me feel very ordinary.

Don't feel ordinary. Feel blessed that you had the courage to try something few other people ever get to do, and go enjoy it!

You make me feel very ordinary. I have just started diving,PADI OW & AOW & 22 dives so far as a "holiday diver". Looking forward to my next trip - 2 weeks in November. You have to spend the Pension wisely. (77 next month)

Absolutely awesome, good for you. Hope I'm still going at that age.

I certified at 40 and that was 20 years ago. Yes - I'm 60. I do about 70 dives a year. Right now I'm finishing up my Cave Cert and doing the Intro to Cave in November. If I wasn't busy with that I'd be starting my DM.

I haven't been too old to rack up more than 800 dives in the last four years.

You have been certified four years and have posted almost 15,000 times??? That is incredible...

I'm forty nine and just got certified a couple of months ago along with my seventeen year old son. Fifty is the new forty!

Never heard about cyberdivers.:rofl3:

Sorry TSandM,just to good to let go.:D

my mother, who is in her mid 40s, is also getting certified with me. It was our idea to do it, but my father seems to think that she's "too old" to do it and thinks that it's a dangerous idea for her.

I haven't read the entire thread and maybe this has been brought up already, but, maybe your father is too old to do it and thinks that her doing it is a dangerous idea for him.

I'm 47 & got certified last week. If your mom wants to dive - she's not too old. If she's not in the physical condition to dive (can't pass the swim test or something) then she's still not too old, she just needs to exercise first and improve her physical conditioning a bit. Join the local Y or something and start exercising/swimming. If that's too much, start by walking around the neighborhood for a while. Doing those things will be great even if she finds that diving isn't her thing. The cliche is true - you're only as old as you feel - apparently your father feels older than your mother. Tell them to start exercising together.

Shame on dad. She is definitely not too old. In fact, scuba can help her stay young and in shape. I say go for it. PS I was over 50 when I learned how to dive.
