Anyone have any idea how much weight a person could drop when they go from a 5 mil two piece to a 5 mil one piece wetsuit? What about from a 5 mil to a 3 mil?

They will need less.....

Looking at some of my configurations 7 pounds less for either is as good a guess as any. It's very dependent on the specific suits and the use they have seen. The spread will also be more for larger sizes.

there is no definitive answer. Anywhere from 8lbs - 2lbs.
The actual manufacturer of the suit makes a huge difference as the fabric composite can differ, the age of the suit makes a difference, the diver's weight and body type make a difference. There is no way to tell how much difference without doing a weight check wearing the suit. Sorry!

As an example - I went from a 7mm 2piece suit to a 1piece a few years ago. I used 16-18 with the 2 piece, I now use 12-14 with the 1 piece. Difference in suit manufacturers: the 1 piece is much nicer, high quality and better made than my old 2 piece, plus it is new so neoprene is still springy and hasn't had any compression (my old suit was 5 yrs old and 100+ dives). The new one is much warmer to me too as it is better quality and no compression of the neoprene. So even though it is less neoprene, I didn't drop alot of weight between the 2 suits.

:DThanks folks. I know a number of variables will come into play but I figure there may be enough people who have made the transition to give a ballpark idea. I carry 18lb now with the wetsuit but drop to 4 lb trim weights with the sharkskin in summer. My knees are playing up :depressed:and I am just looking at ways to drop some weight during winter until water temps get back above 18 -19 again. I'm trying to decide if a new wetsuit would help and if I should get a 5mil or 3mil.:shakehead:
:crafty:I'm thinking of trying to rent a one piece and see what that is like...
:blinking:I do appreciate hearing from those of you who have made a similar transition or have helped others with it....

for a 5 mm suit, I would guess 4 lbs, but you can't be comparing an old compressed suit with a new one, or their might be no difference.
