I recently acquired this Norris steel 72 after a brief look inside (the outside is great). At first I thought it looked ok, but now I'm second guessing myself; is this able to be tumbled, or is this bad enough to fail a VIP? When I glance inside it doesn't look like there's any significant pitting, but some of the pics don't look great when I zoom in.

That will likely be fine after a quick tumble. Those pits look more like surface flakes and there is space between them. Tumble it out and see what you have.
