I dont know squat about them but am interested in learning and using them. What is the first thing I should do before I go running into a class?

Take a look at my site http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/divemole.htm where there is a lot of general information. Then go to the links page and follow the rebreather links

I also have a book revue which covers books specific to rebreathers that will increase your knowledge

Then once you understand the basics, go and arrange to have a go on a rebreather (if your in the UK, then I can help there) to see what you think

I warn you now that they are strange the first time you use them.

If youre still not convinced, do the training class, before you buy one. That way you only spend £500 to find out they dont suit you rather than the £4000 a unit costs

They are a comitment. You need to change the way you dive and learn new skills (and unlearn others), but once your hooked there is no going back to noisy, cold bubble makers

Good luck in your quest

Hey guys! I'm a newbie to the board, but thought I better put my 2 cents worth in.

I got interested in rebreathers a couple of years ago and things kinda got out of hand. My first unit was a Drager Atlantis (older model Dolphin) then a Ray. I went to ProDive in Ft. Lauderdale last fall and got my Open Water Instructor certification, While there I also trained on the Dolphin to instruct (TDI Cert).

After I "graduated" from Pro Dive, I stayed in Florida for a few more weeks and took the Inspiration course from Don Townsend at Millennium Divers. A bit later, I took the IANTD Azimuth Instructor course from Mauricio DeFendi at IANTD HQ in Florida.

I currently own 7 rebreathers; 2 Rays, 2 Dolphins, 2 Inspirations and one Azimuth.

If I hadn't planned on teaching the units, I would have gotten rid of everything except one Inspiration.

I'm in Northeastern Oklahoma now, but am moving to Portland, Oregon in a couple of weeks. (Yes, I DO have a drysuit....even though I really don't care much for it....)

Great Board!!!
