I loved diving with my wife. We trained together, bought gear together, traveled together, dove 96 times together, and shared the most amazing adventures of our lives. It was wonderful! Unfortunately, she decided to move on from our marriage and I lost the only dive buddy I ever had. I have gone diving since then without her, but I have to say it isn't nearly as much fun. The post-dive debrief with my instant buddies just doesn't have the same emotional impact as sharing the experience with someone who really matters to you. Additionally, I wonder if I ran into trouble underwater, would they be as interested/trustworthy/concerned in helping me as she was? I doubt it.

But I'm plugging along, continuing to dive in the hopes that one day I might find a new dive buddy who really will be a true buddy. It would make diving a lot more satisfying.

I understand what your missing. But I would think there might be a silver limning for you, perhaps someone better is in store which you can actually share this with. Or maybe introduce them to. They will be amazed because of what you introduced them to. What ever the scenario, your experience in diving can help that and your desire to find some one to share with is by no means unattainable. You just have to think as not if, but when you find some one, its going to be even more special than before!

One of the great things about diving is the people who do it. It's such a fantastic way to meet people from all around the world and with all kinds of backgrounds. When you are ready to date again, I find women who dive to often be strong minded independent types - and I think those are great characteristics in a partner. Or maybe you will have the joy of introducing this new world to someone else special. If you are looking for good regular buddies a dive club is often a good idea. Anyway, this post touched me and I wish you all the best.

I wish I could convince my wife if the wonders of scuba diving...

Miy wife does not dive... she does not even like to swim... however she does like to sit at the pool and read and drink out of a pineapple.. this is perfect because she has no idea what the gear costs, I do morning dives meet her for lunch then go out for dinner drinks and night life. It is perfect. she knows I would go crazy sitting that long and she does not want to run run run on vacation.

I am very fortunate that my wife likes to dive with me. I enjoy seeing her being amazed at the under water world, and it is great to share it with some one you love.

There are a few little things that kind of bug me sometimes though. For example:

She loves to hold my hand most of the time, although now its getting a little bit better.
When we kick out to the kelp beds I have to tow her when she gets tired.
Her mask fogs up a lot.
She blows through her air in half the time I do.

Things I love
She cracks me up under water.
laying on our backs watching our bubbles and the sea life go by.
Taking selfies of us together
talking about how cool the dive we just had!

I know I'm forgetting some things. But tell me what you love or what drives you crazy when you dive with your spouse.

Sure your wife is not a twin sister of my wife ???, I guess we are lucky that we have spouses with who we can enjoy a hobby together, but as well enjoy diving solo, aldo different types of diving.

I actually met my now wife through diving. She has been diving longer and has double the dives of me. She knows what equipment she likes and dives it, She had a wing and a DPV before me. She prefers sub 40m dives but is always up for new training. Current' we're both Rescue, and BSAC ADP - she's also got a blending cert. I'd say she's the better diver. She has no interest in the geeky equipment - she leave it to me to research that. On the rare occasions one of us cant' dive the other will in a blink of an eye. The only downside is that sometime you get complacent as a buddy but then again being a couple neither is afraid to correct the other person. I love diving with her and we have the same mindset where we will dive, dive dive. we both prefer Liveaboards to Luxury 5 star resorts and both enjoy challenging diving with currents. The video I posted here Shows her finning like crazy at the start chasing the whale shark (I'm following behind on my scooter towing her broken one)

I'm happy to dive with others but prefer to dive with her - we don't hand hold underwater but can communicate with little nods and shrugs. If there is a really cool creature we want to film or take a picture of then there is no love lost - first there wins :)

I'm grateful that my husband was a diver when we met, and I decided I didn't want to "sit on the porch" for the rest of my life. Been enjoying diving for almost 4 years now. A great way to relax, when life can be crazy.

My wife and I became certified together, and last year we were married underwater in the Turks & Caicos.

OK now that is definitely amazing! You got to share a video with us. You guys must really love the ocean and diving.

Tell us more!
What was it like?
Did your mask fog up, were you nervous?
How did the ceremony go?
Did everything go smooth or were there some blooper moments?
I have never seen a marriage performed underwater, but I have heard of it before.

Wow! I hope you guys are still diving together a lot since your marriage.

Not as easy as one would think.

Not everyone can hover as a group, so everyone kneels on the sand = whiteout

You can't use a flash with all that sand floating in the water

The island was so small that there wasn't someone to marry us, so one of our friends did the ceremony.

Underwater there isn't much of a ceremony 'cause you can't talk (that's what I love most about diving with my wife).

Even on a calm day there is always a slight current, and unless you're overweighted you're going to float with surges.

You may now kiss the bride....
