Just saw a commercial put out by the California Lottery showing a guy going up a ladder to change out a light bulp in a vaulted ceiling @ maybe 20 feet. The ladder was only 10 feet and the guy with out stretched arm was maybe 8 feet. On the next to the last step on the ladder he is not quite close enough but it appears if he goes all the way to the top step he might reach the burnt out bulb. Stretched out in vain on the top step only to fall tumbling into a heap on the floor. And to boot he was alone. That is why this stuff is serious business. Know your limitations, change often, change safe.

It commericals like that that hurt the business. Running a LBC shop I try to educate the public that light bulb changing is a safe sport, as long as you have the proper training and equipment. Then a stupid commerical comes out like that, and scares people off. It's irresponsable and damaging to the business.

Like they say: How do you make a million bucks with a Bulb Changing Business??

Start with Two million!!!!

I've only seen that commercial once, must have got too many complaints from LBC shops like yours and got pulled from the airwaves.

With all the old timers and newbies hanging all those Christmas lights you must be swamped.

Hi guys!

I'm a newbie and started changing light bulbs only recently. I have a few questions for the veterans (those with 3000+ changes in bad viz conditions, while on a ladder):

First, I'm in the process of making a change plan for the bulb in my room; Can you tell me how to plan this in detailed steps? I've noticed that after six in the evening the viz. around the bulb is really bad. Should I plan this change in the morning instead?

Second, what could I have done to prevent this? Should I have taken the bulb for anual or monthly service?

Third, what ammount of backup light should I use? A flash-light? Would a torch work? Anyone had to change the light bulb of the backup-light while changing a lightbulb? If the backup light breaks do you usually cary a backup-bulb for the backup light hanged around your neck?

Thanks
