Hi,
I'm booked flights from Edmonton to Bonaire for Sep 13 to sep 29 using my frequent flyer points. Now when do you think I should book the flights to Bonaire? I'm probably going to fly with AA. Do you think if I wait a while, prices will go down? If I were to book today, I'd be looking at 514 per ticket.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Darryl

Hi Darryl,

I suspect that I can help you out, but I don't understand what you are saying.

Could you please restate the issues?

Thanks,

DocVikingo

Sorry,
Very poorly worded. Basically I'm wondering if I wait to book flights, am I going to get a better deal on them. Of course the one thing to keep in mind is that I do not want to be left without a ticket.

I've been monitoring prices to a couple of places in the Carribean and Cancun for the June-July timeframe. What I am finding is . . .
1. Far better fares if you can travel Mon-Thur -- fares for Fri-Sun travel are 25% to 40% higher!
2. Rates are actually going up slightly. Example: best fare to Cancun last week (for early June) was $488 round trip from AZ; this week it is $508. IMHO, I think the airlines are responding to the recent positive news regarding the economy!
3. Any "last-minute" specials (usually to fill up flights) seem to be pretty few and far between. Obviously, the risk you run is waiting too late and either not getting a flight or paying an outrageous fare.

I would recommend subscribing to Travelocity -- it's free and you can customize their "fare watcher" to notify you when your selected flights' fares change.

Good luck,

My advice for Bonaire is get the tickets 3 months in advance. Air Service is limited so when the cheap seats go, so does your opportunity to get them.

I've never flown to Bonaire (from Milwaukee or Chicago) for anything less than $550. Book the tix. That seems like a great price!

BTW, I've booked as much as nine months in advance and as little as two.

We just bought our tickets to Bonaire this past week. We leave September 14th. Just about the whole group bought their tickets .. ranging from 450.00 to 750.00 from LAX.
I have a contracted fare with Air Jamaica that is hard to beat, from what everyone that bought these tickets has told me.

Good luck!

Check with AA representative just to be sure but American is offering roundtrip tickets to the Caribbean for only 25,000 frequent flyer miles instead of 30,000 for travel Sept. 7 through Nov. 14.
