I have been actively freediving for 16 years. Have tried everything imaginable and have stumbled on some very effective techniques of my own. After a thorough warmup, 4:30 is getting easy and have a maximum of 6:12. I think the key to a long static (of course along with relaxation etc...) is working on dynamic apnea. When your body is exerting in an apneic state it tends to make the static much more relaxing, as your body responds to the lack of movement. No hyperventilation, just ventilate fully and let your body respond naturally to the immersion. The ONE key I will share, it is impossible to MAKE your body relax, you just let it relx. Took me a while to understand this.....16 years to be exact! ;)

I hate holdingmybreath... my best is 3:40, a long time ago... if it wasn't so uncomfortable I'd try for more, maybe someday. I like the color purple.......

i haven't timed myself in a while, but a few years back, when i still smoked,
it was about 2:45 (never got above 3:00) (that's static)

actually swimming around, i haven't timed myself ever, but i am able to
go to around 30-40 feet, hang out a little, and come back up... barely...

thsts still pretty darn good

3:10 is my longest timed dive, but I have fought large Aj's and grouper burning alot of 02 at 40 fsw I think that account for most of my dives, I would consider them working dives.

The record is: Static Apnea 8:58 Tom Sietas Germany 12/12/04

Maximum time holding breath while submerged under water. This is generally done face-down in a swimming pool.

My time is 2:15.

i can freedive around 40-50 feet...

my static is about 1:48, i just started a few weeks ago..
ive been doing out of water statics daily to increase my lung capacity, and also reading tips on relaxation and meditation..

i'm so serious about learning freediving, i just such limited resources and my parents arent to fond of the idea, as i am overweight and am not in good shape..

However, this winter is going to be my regeneration period, i plan on attending a gym and loosing a ton of weight, or adding more muscle, i'd also liek to try yoga to increase my relaxation..

I dont think 1:48 is to bad tho, considering im 5`11 and 210 lbs

I'm pretty far from a good pieve of water ( living in Omaha, right now), so I don't usually measure my breath in time, just in laps in a standard olympic length pool. I average about 2 laps (down and back twice) with fins without much toruble, 3 laps on occasion.

Seems to depend alot on whether or not I've had my cup of coffee and if I lifted earlier that day.

Anyone want to fly me out and put me up somewhere with good water? I'm just a poor college student trying to balance studying, drinking, and scuba... you can call it charity.

PS. I will cook for you.
