I thought that, in order to protect aluminium, you would need a less noble (more electropositive) metal to be corroded like zinc (sacrificial anode).
Why would the aluminium strip corrode and not the aluminium of the tank?
Unless you are talking about protecting a steel tank, in such case an Al anode would work (I believe).
