If it's not the lake in my back yard, 4 hours to Okoboji Iowa or 8 hours to Bonne Terre, Table Rock MO or BeaverLake AK.

Otherwise it's dive where the job takes me.

There's one site that's five minutes away from me. The best socal shore diving site (imo) is nine minutes from my house. Other good shore diving is anywhere from 30 - 90 minutes....and then there are the Channel Islands, which are a 20 - 60 minute drive plus an hour or two boat ride.

To scuba, I fly over.....how far is it from Belize to the Philippines anyway? A lot of miles. I don't scuba here very much, unless I get an anchor stuck or fish goes in a hole and I can't get him out any other way, but the canal where I launch my boat is about 2 miles from my house.

My nearest diving place is 600 km (372 miles) away home. Its a stone quarry with fresh water. Nice, not much to see, no more than 12 mts (40 feet) depth .
The second nearest is a quarry with fresh water 800 km (500 miles) away. Water cristal clear, green, hardly any fish to see.
The third place is a beach, 1100 km (680 miles). Sea water at least. There is a wreck (a small fishing ship) and several specific spots to dive.
There use to be some other stone quarries that are no longer in use owing to darkness/no more visibility. Those places became ruined because of the lack of maintenance and infraestructure.
The place that I dove and is the best for me, because is far away but still accesable is Bombinhas in Brasil. It's 1600 km (1000 miles) away home. This needs an intermediate stop overnight to go by car.

20 min. Queen Anne Hill/Seattle to Seacrest/Alki. There are 3 shops within 10 min. drive and 3 saltwater marinas within a 10 min drive.

I just drove 350 miles to San Carlos, Mexico for a dive trip. That's about the closest spot from Tucson.

Yay! Hi, Laurie! :wavey:

Me, too. It's about 5.5 hours for us; we come from South of Sierra Vista! :D

On a typical weekend, it's 20-40 minute's drive to the usual haunts, up to an hour for the more "exotic" locations. If it's a special trip, it may be up to 2 hours, but that's not very often...

About an hour give or take to several dives in Howe sound. About 2 hours to Edmonds and Keystone.

Nearest quarry: 25min (never been there though, still unsure about the access)
Nearest "crappy" site: 45min
Nearest interesting shore dive: 1h30min
Nearest salt water dive site: 6h (but totally worth a 6h drive)
