Hello -

I plan on moving into my first home soon and wanted to dedicate a little area for storing scuba gear. I have lived in apartments so my gear was always crammed up in boxes and closets until just before a dive trip. I promised myself that once I have more space, I will keep my gear more "respectfully."

If I could get some ideas (possibly photographs?:eyebrow:) of how rest of the world stores gear, I could take some inspiration.

Cheers -

Do you have basement, garage, attic for the new home? what do you have?

My BC and wetsuits hang in a closet in my bedroom where the temp is relatively constant. Regs are coiled up (no kinks) and computer (wrist mount) are in a reg bag under the BC. Miscellaneous stuff (lights, hood, gloves, etc.) are on a shelf above the BC/wetsuits. Pretty simple.

When it has time to dry between dive days... Essential 'every dive' gear in a gear bag. Specialties (strobes, hunting, reels, back up lights, etc.) in a separate bag. We have a dedicated diving closet, so when we can't dive for a while we hang up the wetsuits, regs, bcds, and stand all the tanks below them. Spearguns on the full length shelf above, and other gear on the shelves on both sides.

I still keep everything in the Tupperware boxes I travel to the dive site with. I dry it and then store it. Dry and constant temp.

I have 6 foot rods hung in the garage (summer dive locker) and basement (winter dive locker). I also have a 6 foot bench, regulator rack, weight belt tree and a shelving unit. Most of the other in use stuff is in our dive bags (wife & I). It takes us about an hour to move the gear seasonally.

I do have some general shelving in the basement where I store spares, retired items, curiosities, parts & supplies.

I dont have a basement. Just a garage. I used to keep my transparent mask inside the foot pocket of my rubber fins but they started to turn yellow. Another mask got a scratch on its lens and I dont even know how. Since there was shortage of always shortage of space in my studio apartment, I let it go. But when I have my garage, no X-cuses.

My gear is always in the bathroom, hanging up and drying out. I live on a third story apartment block with no elevator, garage or basement or anything like that. Have to carry up my gear two or three times a week to be washed :( Then back down again. I'm very lazy so I hate this.

Would LOVE a garage. Most people I know have an area in their garage to store and wash their dive gear. Often they have tubs with a hose nearby and can wash everything and hang it up right near where they park their car. Sounds easy!

I live in a crappy college apartment with little space. My roommates don't really use the common area, so I keep my stuff out there.

I have 3 tupperware bins. One for my extra wings and a drysuit, another for regs, another for backplates, argon straps, and my primary wing. These gets stacked up and I have a milk crate with all my spools, SMBs, backup lights, masks, and assorted items, stacked on top of the tupperware.

Tanks (15) get lined up next to that, with scooters in front of the tanks. My other suit gets packed in the bag it came with, and undergarments get hung up. Wetsuit, extra fins, booties, etc are in a mesh dive bag tucked away in a closet. Lights are on a desk with the charger.

Tupperware works so well because it allows you to use vertical space, which is great for using a small area. This link should work for a pic: http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs510.snc3/26812_366858198475_509098475_3578660_5876482_n.jpg

I'm not far from Saspotato's lot in life, I live on the 2nd floor however.

I use my lanai as my storage area. I have a corner for tanks, a container for loose items/spares, and when everything is dry it gets staged in the gear bag for the next trip. Exposure suits hang in the closet.

Peace,
Greg
