I just dove into the world of External flash for my new G10. I always secured my camera to my D ring. Now that I have the flash should I contiue to do so? My tether is stretchable to about 2 feet so it won't be locked in close. Can you give me some insight with what you folks use?

Thanks a ton

Scott

I have a Subal housing, ultralight arms and 2 Nikonos strobes, so my rig is quite a bit bulkier than yours. I have a large stainless-steel bolt snap tied closely to it with "cave line," and then attached to my right shoulder D-ring. It would be pretty uncomfortable to dive that way, but for those rare occasions that I need both hands free (descending an anchor line in current while pinching my nose to clear, for example) it works. The rest of the time I grip it, untethered in any way.

I have a subal housing as well, with 2 Inon strobes, usually a ringflash as well. I clip it to my right shoulder with a tether and always leave it attached. No problems even with 2 hand shooting.

I also use the coiled lanyard, similar to the one shown in gert7to3's post. I did add a bolt snap to the split ring, so that I could more easily (IMHO) hand the camera up to the crew at the end of a (boat) dive.
