Hey guys,

I just bought a Sherwood Brut from "Dive Right In Scuba". It was previously reccomended to me by my LDS in Connecticut. Does anyone use one and how do they like it?

I have an older one I use on my pony bottle. It works great. They are a good work horse reg.

I bought mine used years ago and still am using it currently. Great for beach diving. Like a Timex.. takes a licking and keeps on ticking!

I bought a used one for my wife and it works great. Nothing fancy, no adjustments or such. I did a little research before i bought it and it seems this is like the baseline staple regulator for shops. They were reported as very dependable for rec diving.

Great workhorse reg will last for decades (check ebay you will find 20 year old sherwoods). They get a little tough to breathe on deeper than 100'.

Cheers.

You gotta love the Sherwood Brut, it is one of the toughest regs out there today and not a bad breather either. For my money I think I would go for the Magnum to get the balanced first stage, but they are both great regs. As for their breathing at 100’, the newer Sherwood first stages have ports labeled PRI, when hooking up a second stage to these ports the regs will breathe much better than some of the older Sherwood designs.

I'm sure there are some great reviews about this reg on the SB clone site that you started.

:rofl3:

The guts of the Brut and the Magnum are very nearly identical. With a helpful LDS to order a couple parts, the Brut first stage can be made balanced in just a few minutes.:D

I have worked in the newer Sherwoods and I have to say, I was impressed by the performance and simplicity of them. Oh, and they were also easy to service! A great choice.

I looked it up. The orifice would need to be changed over to a moving orifice and five disc springs added. Retail on parts about $25. Easy enough not to pay the labor by having it done as a part of the annual service.
