Other than paying to go on an expensive trip, how do you find dive buddies? I couldn't talk any of my friends into joining me when I got certified. Just got my open water certification and want to get some diving in. Any thoughts?

There are great local groups here on the board that are wonderful sources for dive buddies. :D

Find a local dive store that you like, see if they have any Day trips, or Dive weekends.

Did you get certified through a local shop? Ask if they have an e-group. Ours did, and that's how I found my first non-instructor buddy. Also ask if the shop organizes fun dives -- both of the shops I deal with here do. And of course, Scubaboard is a great resource, too! I had no friends who dove when I started (other than my husband, whose time is much more limited than mine), but I do now :)

I became and instructor and now I am never at a loss for buddies

I own my own boat and because of that I have very few problems finding people to dive with. It's like (have boat will dive) just help me put some fuel in the tank!!

I just started diving with any and everyone who wanted to dive- I met some people on the 'net, and now I'm diving at least once a week or more with them- just be eager and helpfull and stuff. It won't take you long. Go back to your shop you got certified through and sign up for the advanced class, too- everyone taking it likes diving enough to want to learn more, right? They'd be great dive buddies...plus, this site has area-specific forums- find the one closest to you and post there! If all else fails, move to Seattle and I'LL dive with you!

Welcome to the board. Joining local dive clubs is one of the better ways to find buddies. Come join us on the NC board. We have members form all over, a lot of the in Charlotte area. Some of us are diving most any weekend. Click on the link below my sig.

Like they said LDS and Scubaboard.

I also have a dive flag on my car and the back of my work ID badge that have started some conversations. Then when you beome totally obsesed and all you talk about is diving you will find like minded people.
