I was looking on the Halcyon site and saw a picture of a pocket that goes on the backplate. I believe they said you could put SMBs, lift bags, etc in it.

How exacly would you get something out of that pocket if you had the backplate on? It seems like a good place for wetnotes and a safety sausage.

thanks

It works great for storing a lift bag or surface marker. I dont think i would use it for wet notes as you will have a heck of time storing them back in the pocket.

You simply fold the bag or marker accordian style and store it in the pocket. The bolt snap from the bag is attached to the rear butt ring. When your ready to deploy your bag you reach back and unclip the bolt snap from the rear d-ring. From there it is a matter of just pulling it out. Sometimes it helps to arch your back so your not pushing the bag against the BP. Another method is to just store your SMB in your bellow pocket if you have them.

There is a site out there somewhere that shows how to fold and store for a visual reference. Ill post it if i can find it.

So is it just like a piece of fabric over the backplate that you wedge stuff under?

Thanks for the description of use..I'd like to see that site.

I'm a little confused. I tried this but it seems like overkill to me. In the pic, it looks like the smb is clipped (with a double ender) to the spool, and the spool is clipped (with another double ender) to the rear d ring. Look at the last pic -- entanglement hazard???

I'm not an authority on this stuff at all, but it seems to me that leaving just a little bit of the smb strap showing would be better. I store my smb so that the strap is tight and about 2" of strap comes out of the storage pack. I have my spool either clipped to the rear d-ring or my right hip d-ring. Any thoughts about this?

Not the site i was looking for but this will give you the idea

I hear you on that. I only posted those links for illustrative purposes showing the pocket. I actually keep my SMB in my drysuit pocket rigged up to the spool ready to go. I dont think i would keep the SMB in my BP pocket with the spool rigged and ready to go for the same concerns as you....entanglement possibilities. Other than that it is a great place to store a non rigged SMB in my opinion.

If you have a bag stowed in the MC Pack, just leave a bit hanging out, there is no need to clip it off to anything.
