Good for you! I'm sure you want to do it our your way....other wise I would have said....COME ON DOWN!

Sea Hunt, Jacques Cousteau, Flipper...... then my chance came in '76 to get lessons. The magic has not stopped ever since. :)

i grew up on the river, remember seeing Cousteau on t.v., remember my dad buying a set of gear from a guy who needed money at x-mas time but never got to see him use it, and then came James Bond 007, so cool and lots of girls, always wanted to do it after seeing Bond. i always thought it to be out of range untill i went into the firefighting service, the dept. had alotted money for training and started asking for volunteers. Ureeka! i got my ow for free and was paid as if on duty. i discovered that i could do this scuba diving thing( with the additional confidence gained from wearing an SCBA in burning buildings) and havn't stoped since. one consequence though, i have to recover bodies of drown victims, somebody has to do it for the families.

it was something my wife and i had wanted to do for some time, so when i turned 30 last october, she gave me the classes as a gift. we were going to start in march this year, but then she had back surgery that set us back a bit...ah well...better late than never!

I have always been looking to pick up scuba diving but didnt have the time or money for it. And guess what, my open water course was as an incentive to me given by my company! How's that for benefits?

Sitting by the pool at a hotel in Honolulu earlier this year. Young lady wheels out a cart with some tanks and dive gear. I scratch my head. Ask her what all that is about. She said she gives free introductory scuba classes every day at the pool.

"How much?"
"Free, like I said"
"Don't you need a certification or something to go diving?"
"Nope"
"Get out !!"
"No really"
"Can I sign up for tomorrow?"
"Sure"

Next day I was scuba diving in a big pool, and said to myself "Oh, I gotta do this". Signed up for a class when I got home.

every year at school they made us go on a dumb week long camping trip. I was lazy and into partying, and diving was the only thing left, plus it allowed me to stay at home and (surprise) party.

I froze my *** off and didn't see a thing, but changed my year of birth on my PIC envelope so that my cert card came back, and voila....fake ID good enough to get me into the clubs in our small town....aahhhh

I fell in love during my deep dive on my advanced, and I was hooked.

Several years ago, my company sent me over to Manila, Philippines for a 3 month period to help set up a new office. I took the opportunity between Christmas and New Years to visit a small resort in northern Palawan, and while there, I signed up for the PADI Discover Scuba program. I did 2 dives on the house reef, and I was hooked.

When I returned to Texas, I signed up for OW at the end of February. The instructor asked if anyone had ever dived before, and when I told him where I'd been, he told me that I had already seen the best, and everything else would be worse. I then did my OW checkout dives in water that looked like chocolate milk with 4 ft. of viz!

I have never regretted my decision to get certified, and I've always wanted to go back to Palawan. Maybe some day.......sigh.
