DAN's 2008 annual report is basing its numbers for scuba related deaths for year 2006 as 138 worldwide. This is from page 58. It also says that "This is the first attempt to include worldwide data and the tally is most likely incomplete." The frequency of accidents by country shown on page 59 on table 4.2-1 is 51 for US and Canada Residents who were/weren't traveling. These numbers do not include cases of "free divers." This report is quite interesting to read and is free to all members!
